The UK has joined forces with Egypt, the United States and a number of other countries in the Exercise Bright Star as part of its military cooperation, the British Embassy in Cairo said in statement.

British Defence Attaché, Colonel Ed Sandry said: "Egypt and the UK continue to work closely together in the face of the shared threat of terrorism. This exercise is an important part of our military cooperation, allowing our troops to work side-by-side in realistic training scenarios. UK expertise in counterterrorism capabilities play a key role in this multinational collaboration."

Earlier this year HMS ARGYLL of the British Royal Navy visited Alexandria Naval Base to facilitate discussions between senior Egyptian and UK Naval Officers about bilateral cooperation including training exercises and maritime security in the Mediterranean and Red Seas.

This year also witnessed a number of high-level defence visits including from the UK's Defence Senior Advisor to the Middle East and North Africa Lieutenant General John Lorimer and Assistant Chief of Defence Staff Major-General Giles Hill. These visits help reinforce the UK’s firm commitment to Egypt in combatting terrorism.
